St. LAURENT en ARDENNES
Sponsored by Euroscale Models
St. Laurent was originally built by Bill Roberts and portrays a busy, heavily graded main line running through the Ardennes. Most of the traffic is freight, including scrap steel running to the steelworks in Luxemburg. Very few trains actually stop at St. Laurent. During 2005, Bill decided to dismantle the layout and move on to another project. However, St. Laurent soon found itself a new home in Margate. At the start of 2006 work commenced on refurbishing the layout. Brian concentrated on the electrical and mechanical items with Dave concentrating on the scenics with assistance from Pam.
Some operating accessories, including a Faller Road System, lighting and some cameo scenes were added. As well as automating the storage yard, the layout was converted to DCC although it can, if required, be operated with analogue DC.
Some things to look out for:
What has Cleo done to her Clio?
Indicators and stoplights on 2 of the trucks.
Man changing his wheel.
What are the firefighters rescuing from the tree (it’s not a cat !) and where are his four friends?
All of the team are represented on the layout – Brian, Dave & Steve - can you identify them?
We admit to a certain amount of modellers' licence with the trains. The DB ICE3 has been diverted and and the CIWL set with the OGEG operated BR01 is a special charter in tribute to Brian’s late mother Grace, who always liked “proper trains”. We are always on the lookout for more SNCB, CFL and NS stock.
We hope that you enjoy St. Laurent. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
